Agniveer SSR (Senior Secondary Recruit) is the Indian Navy's sailor entry for Class 12 science students under the Agnipath scheme. Details change each cycle. Treat the numbers below as what the 2026 cycle asked for, and check the current notice on joinindiannavy.gov.in before you apply.
Who is eligible for Navy Agniveer SSR after 12th?
For the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches, Testbook's summary of the 2026 notification lists these conditions:
Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics from a recognised board, with at least 50% aggregate marks. A 3-year engineering diploma, or a 2-year vocational course with Physics and Maths, also with 50%, can qualify instead.
For batch 01/2027, a date of birth between 1 December 2004 and 31 May 2009.
For batch 02/2027, a date of birth between 1 May 2005 and 31 October 2009.
An exam fee of Rs 550 plus 18% GST.
The same report gives the 2026 application window as 14 March to 6 April 2026. If you are in Class 11 now, the cycle you are aiming for will probably open while you are in Class 12, so start the fitness work early.
How does the Navy Agniveer SSR selection process work?
Selection has two stages. Testbook lists the same steps for 2026 that Careers360 described for the 02/2024 batch:
Stage I: the Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), a computer-based test used to shortlist candidates.
Stage II: a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), a written examination and a recruitment medical examination.
Clearing Stage I only earns a call to Stage II, where the run or the medical can still rule you out.
What is in the INET and the PFT?
The SSR paper has 100 objective questions on English, Science, Mathematics and General Awareness in 1 hour, bilingual in Hindi and English, according to QuickSarkari's 2026 recruitment page. It and Testbook both report negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer, so a blind guess costs you.
The PFT is a 1.6 km run in 6 min 30 s for men and 8 min for women, plus 20 squats for men and 15 for women, according to ResultBharat's summary of the 2026 notice. Men also do push-ups, and women do bent-knee sit-ups. The reported counts differ between summaries, so take the exact numbers from your own notification.
A 12-week prep plan for the written test and the run
This plan assumes about an hour of study and 30 to 45 minutes of exercise a day, six days a week. If you have an injury or a health condition, check with a doctor before you start running hard.
Weeks 1 to 2: find your starting point. Time yourself over 1.6 km and count your squats and push-ups. Take one timed 100-question mock and mark every wrong answer by section.
Weeks 3 to 6: build the base. Run easy three days a week and add one set of squats, push-ups and sit-ups each week. Revise Class 11 and 12 Physics and Maths chapters one at a time, then do 20 timed questions on each.
Weeks 7 to 10: get faster. Add one interval day: four 400 m laps at your target lap time with rest between them. Take a full mock every Sunday and log every wrong answer and why.
Weeks 11 to 12: rehearse. Run one full 1.6 km test a week, not more. Do a mock on alternate days. Skip any question you cannot narrow down to two options, because of the negative marking.
When a wrong answer comes from using the wrong method, the Fermi Problem Library has worked problems with a step-by-step solver that explains the reasoning rather than printing an answer. If a whole topic feels shaky, the Fermi Concept Library has a lesson for each concept in physics and mathematics.
What happens in training and after four years?
Sailor training is at INS Chilka in Odisha. The batch that passed out in January 2026 had done 16 weeks of training there, All India Radio News reported.
Agniveers serve for four years, and up to 25 percent of each batch can then be taken into the regular cadre, according to All India Radio News. The rest leave with a Seva Nidhi package and a skill certificate. The services have proposed keeping more Agniveers on, with the Navy asking for 75%, but as of July 2026 no decision had been announced, the Free Press Journal reported.
