If you have finished Class 12 with Physics and Maths and want a career in uniform, Agniveer Vayu is the Indian Air Force's four-year entry under the Agnipath scheme. It is not an officer or pilot entry: the IAF notification for Agniveervayu intake 02/2027 says the selection test is not for commissioned officers, pilots, navigators or airmen. Dates change with every intake, so check the next one on the official CASB recruitment portal.
Who is eligible for Agniveer Vayu after 12th science?
For the science subjects test, the intake 02/2027 notification asks for:
10+2 with Mathematics, Physics and English, with at least 50% aggregate and 50% in English (a three-year engineering diploma or a two-year vocational course with Physics and Maths also qualifies)
unmarried status, for both men and women
a birth date inside that intake's window (for 02/2027, 1 July 2005 to 1 January 2010)
a minimum height of 152 cm, with lower limits for women from some regions
Only the figure before the decimal point counts in your aggregate, so 49.99% is taken as 49%, not rounded up to 50%.
Took PCB without Maths? You can still sit the "other than science subjects" test, which accepts 10+2 in any stream with the same 50% rules.
What is the Agniveer Vayu exam pattern for science students?
Selection runs in three phases: an online test, then a Physical Fitness Test and two Adaptability Tests, then a medical examination, according to the IAF notification.
The science online test lasts 60 minutes and covers Physics, Mathematics and English at the level of the 10+2 CBSE syllabus, which you can find on the CBSE curriculum page. A correct answer earns one mark, an unattempted question earns nothing, and a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. You must qualify in each subject separately, and marks are normalised across sessions.
Science candidates may also take both tests in one 85-minute sitting, which adds Reasoning and General Awareness.
A worked example on guessing. If you can narrow a question to two options, a guess earns on average 0.5 × 1 − 0.5 × 0.25 = 0.375 marks, so answer it. A blind guess among four options earns just 0.25 − 0.75 × 0.25 ≈ 0.06 marks, so move on.
What are the Agniveer Vayu physical fitness standards?
Men must finish a 1.6 km run within 7 minutes and women within 8 minutes, according to the IAF notification. After a 10-minute rest:
men do 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 20 squats, one minute each, with two-minute breaks between them
women do 10 sit-ups in one minute 30 seconds, then 15 squats in one minute
On a 400 m track, 1.6 km is four laps. That means 1 minute 45 seconds per lap for 7 minutes, or 2 minutes per lap for 8. Time every lap so you learn an even pace.
How to prepare for Agniveer Vayu in 90 days?
This plan follows the IAF notification rules and assumes about two hours of study and 45 minutes of training on most days. If you have asthma, a heart condition or an injury, see a doctor before you start running hard.
Days 1-30: find your baseline. Take one timed model paper from the CASB portal and run one timed 1.6 km. List the five Physics and five Maths chapters where you lost most marks. Run easy three or four days a week and practise push-ups, sit-ups and squats with clean form.
Days 31-60: fix the gaps. Spend most study time on those ten chapters, with daily English grammar and reading. Add one weekly session of 400 m repeats at your target lap time.
Days 61-90: rehearse the real day. Take a full 60-minute mock twice a week, using the two-option guessing rule. Every 10 days, run the whole sequence: 1.6 km, a 10-minute rest, then the timed strength set. Train lighter in the final week.

What should parents know before their child applies?
The engagement lasts four years. After it, up to 25% of each batch may be enrolled in the regular cadre based on performance, and selection is not guaranteed, according to the IAF notification. For intake 02/2027 the package started at ₹30,000 a month, with a Seva Nidhi of about ₹10.04 lakh (excluding interest) on exit.
