NPAT is the entrance test SVKM's NMIMS uses for its commerce, economics, branding, liberal arts, international business and family business degrees. The NPAT site carries the 2027 label but, as of early November 2026, lists no 2027 dates. So the details below come from the latest official rules, the NMIMS UG entrance handbook for 2026-27.pdf). Check the new handbook when it appears, because fees and dates can change.
What is the NPAT exam pattern?
According to the 2026-27 handbook.pdf), NPAT is a computer-based test taken at a test centre, not from home.
Quantitative Reasoning: 40 questions, 40 marks
Logical Reasoning: 40 questions, 40 marks
Verbal Reasoning: 40 questions, 40 marks
The handbook gives one 100-minute time for all 120 questions, and states that there are no negative marks. It also says the type and difficulty of questions "will be as per SAT Exam pattern".
So 100 minutes for 120 questions is 50 seconds a question: speed matters as much as method. And with no negative marking, a blank can only cost you, so answer every question.
How many attempts are allowed in NPAT?
You can sit NPAT up to three times in a cycle: one main attempt and two retakes, and the highest score is the one NMIMS uses, as the NPAT site's FAQ explains. The handbook.pdf) adds the fine print:
Each attempt is paid for separately. In the 2026 cycle, one attempt for one school cost Rs 2,000, and each extra school added Rs 1,000.
Fees are non-refundable, and rescheduling or cancelling a booked test is not allowed.
Once you have taken the main test, you cannot add a new school in the same category for your retakes. Choose your schools before attempt one.
Which programmes does NPAT cover?
The handbook.pdf) lists these programmes under NPAT:
Commerce: BBA, B.Com, B.Sc. Finance, BBA (FinTech) and the five-year integrated BBA MBA
Economics: B.Sc. Economics
Branding and Advertising: BBA in Branding and Advertising
Liberal Arts: BA in Liberal Arts
International Studies: BBA (International Business) with Kingston University, London
Entrepreneurship and Family Business: Bachelor in Business Management and Marketing, and BBA Finance
Most need at least 50% aggregate in Class 12. B.Sc. Finance, BBA (FinTech), B.Sc. Economics and BBA Finance also need Mathematics or Statistics passed in Class 12, and BBA (International Business) asks for 60%. The NPAT site lists campuses in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Indore, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.
If you are a science student weighing these degrees, read whether PCM or PCB students can do BBA, and compare NPAT with the IPMAT route into five-year integrated management.
How to prepare for NPAT in six weeks
Start with the official NMIMS sample paper, not a random question bank. Then follow this plan, shifting weeks towards your weakest section.
Week 1: Sit the 60-question sample paper (20 per section) in one timed 50-minute block, the real test's pace. Mark each wrong answer as a concept gap, too slow, or careless.
Weeks 2 and 3: Quantitative and logical reasoning. Spend 45 minutes a day on your weakest topic, then do 15 timed questions at 50 seconds each.
Week 4: Verbal reasoning. Read one newspaper editorial a day, write a three-line summary, then do 20 reading and grammar questions.
Week 5: Two full timed mocks. Review each one with a 60-minute mock test review routine before taking the next.
Week 6: One last mock early in the week, then light revision of your error log and normal sleep.
If a quant mistake is a concept gap (percentages or ratios, say), fix the idea before drilling. The Fermi Concept Library has a lesson for each mathematics concept, and the Fermi Problem Library has worked problems with a step-by-step solver that explains the reasoning rather than printing an answer.
Plan your retakes too. In 2026, tests ran from 10 February to 31 May, per the handbook.pdf). A main attempt in March leaves time to repeat this plan's weeks 2 to 5 before a retake.
What should you check in the application window?
