If you are in Class 11 or 12 with PCM or PCB and wondering whether management suits you better, your stream does not lock you out. What decides your options is the entrance test each college uses and, for some colleges, whether you studied maths. This guide covers what a BBA teaches, the main entrance routes, and a four-week plan to decide.
Can PCM or PCB students do BBA?
Yes. CUET-UG is the national test for undergraduate admission to central universities and participating state universities, and its 2026 information bulletin from the National Testing Agency says candidates may choose up to five subjects, including languages and the General Aptitude Test, "irrespective of the subjects opted in class XII".
IIM Indore's admission procedure for the IPM 2026-31 batch lists age, passing Class 12 in 2024 or 2025 or appearing in 2026, and passing Class 10 as its eligibility criteria, with no stream named.
What does a BBA actually teach?
A BBA (or BMS, Bachelor of Management Studies) is a degree in how organisations plan, spend, sell and make decisions. Take Delhi University's BMS: its first-semester syllabus under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 has three core papers: Fundamentals of Management, Statistics for Business Decisions, and Financial Accounting and Analysis. The same document notes that the statistics and accounting papers are the same as in DU's BBA (Financial Investment and Analysis).
Across these papers the syllabus lists lectures, case studies, role plays, presentations, a term paper, numerical problem solving and data analysis in Excel. Each paper's 100 marks split into 25 for internal assessment and 75 for the end-semester exam. Your comfort with numbers and graphs carries over; accounting and speaking in front of a group will be new.
Which entrance tests can a science student take for BBA?
CUET-UG. The NTA bulletin describes the General Aptitude Test as general knowledge, current affairs, mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning, and logical and analytical reasoning. Each paper has 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, with 5 marks for a correct answer and 1 mark deducted for a wrong one. The bulletin tells candidates to pick subjects based on the eligibility criteria of the programme they want, so check what each university asks for its BBA.
IPMAT (IIM Indore). The IIM Indore procedure sets three 40-minute sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (short answer) and Verbal Ability. Final selection weights the aptitude test at 65 and a personal interview at 35. Graduates receive a BA (Foundations of Management) and an MBA. Our guide to the IPMAT and the five-year integrated management programme goes deeper.
A university's own test or Class 12 marks. Many private and state universities run their own process; read each prospectus.
For the aptitude section, our post on how to prepare for the CUET General Test has a section-by-section approach.
Is maths compulsory for BBA if you took PCB?
It depends on the college. For BMS and BBA (FIA) at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, the college's FAQ for 2025 admissions says passing Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 12 and appearing for the maths component in CUET-UG is compulsory. The same FAQ lets students take maths through NIOS or another board, but they must have passed it before applying. Check the current year's version before you plan around it.
Other programmes may not ask for Class 12 maths at all. Even then, the tests above include quantitative sections, so a PCB student should plan to rebuild arithmetic, percentages, ratios and basic algebra.
If your maths has gaps, the Fermi Problem Library has worked problems with a step-by-step solver that explains the reasoning rather than printing an answer, so you can see where a method goes wrong.
How should you decide? A four-week plan
Week 1: Test the interest. Read the first-semester syllabus linked above and spend two evenings on one topic, such as a balance sheet.
Week 2: Build your college list. Choose five to eight programmes and fill in the three-part check from the callout for each.
Week 3: Try the test. Take one timed practice paper in the format of your main entrance test. Mark it honestly, including negative marks.
Week 4: Talk it through. Show a parent or teacher your list, the tests each college needs, your practice score and your plan for boards and the entrance test.
A hypothetical example: Ananya, in Class 12 PCB, wants BMS at a DU college that needs Class 12 maths. She either passes maths through NIOS before applying or picks programmes that do not require it, and prepares for the quantitative sections either way.
If management is one of several options, compare it with whether PCM students can become chartered accountants before you commit. And if you are unsure where to start your revision, Fermi's AI tutor works out what you already know and builds a plan for the session.
Your next step: open the admission page of your first-choice college today and fill in the three-part check.
