If you are in Class 11 or 12 and want a management degree straight after school, JIPMAT is one of the doors. The National Testing Agency (NTA) runs it for two IIMs. Here is the paper, how it differs from IPMAT, and an eight-week plan.
What is JIPMAT, and which IIMs use it?
JIPMAT, the Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test, is a national entrance exam for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management at IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, according to NTA's public notice for JIPMAT 2026.
At IIM Bodh Gaya, students who complete the programme get a BBA and an MBA, and those who exit after three years get a BBA, per the IIM Bodh Gaya IPM page.
Each institute sets its own eligibility. IIM Jammu asked for 60% in both Class 10 and Class 12 (55% for SC, ST and PwD candidates), with Class 10 passed in 2022 or later, and expected a batch of around 140 for 2026-31, per its IPM admission policy. IIM Bodh Gaya also asked for 60% and planned an intake of around 120, and wanted Class 10 passed no earlier than 2023, per its 2026-31 admission policy.
What is the JIPMAT exam pattern?
The JIPMAT 2026 information bulletin set out this paper:
Quantitative Aptitude: 33 questions, 132 marks
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: 33 questions, 132 marks
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: 34 questions, 136 marks
Total: 100 multiple-choice questions, 400 marks, 150 minutes, computer-based, English only
Each correct answer earns 4 marks, each wrong answer loses 1 mark, and a blank earns nothing, according to the same bulletin. It also says the quantitative questions test concepts up to Class 10 mathematics. So you need speed with Class 10 maths, not calculus.
Sections count, not just the total. IIM Jammu required a General-category candidate to reach the 50th percentile in each section, and ranked candidates on JIPMAT percentile (70%), Class 10 marks (15%) and Class 12 marks (15%), per its admission policy.
How is JIPMAT different from IPMAT?
IPMAT is IIM Indore's own test, and its 2026 version differed in four ways, according to IIM Indore's IPM 2026-31 admission procedure:
Length: IPMAT ran 120 minutes in three sections of 40 minutes each; JIPMAT ran 150 minutes.
Question types: IPMAT had a short-answer maths section with no negative marking; JIPMAT is all multiple choice.
Interview: IIM Indore weighted the test 65 and a personal interview 35. Neither JIPMAT institute's 2026 policy listed an interview.
Reasoning: JIPMAT gives a whole section to data interpretation and logical reasoning; IPMAT's sections were quantitative and verbal.
If you sit both, practise DILR as its own block, not as leftover maths.
How do you prepare for JIPMAT in two months?
The bulletin gives 150 minutes for 100 questions, which is 1.5 minutes per question on average. Steady accuracy beats heroics.
Suppose a question has four options. A blind guess gains 4 marks one time in four and loses 1 mark three times in four, an average of +0.25. Rule out one option and the average rises to about +0.67 (4/3 minus 2/3). Rule out two and it is +1.5. So answer anything you have narrowed down, and do not sink time into a question you cannot touch.
An eight-week plan, about two to three hours a day:
Week 1: take one full timed mock cold. Note each section's score and every topic where you lost marks.
Weeks 2-3: Class 10 maths repair: percentages, ratio, linear and quadratic equations, triangles, circles, mensuration, statistics and probability. 30 timed questions a day.
Weeks 2-5: one reading passage and 15 grammar or vocabulary questions daily.
Weeks 4-5: DILR sets: tables, charts, seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms. Practise whole sets, since questions come grouped on one data set.
Week 6: two full mocks. Sort every wrong answer into didn't know, misread, or ran out of time.
Week 7: fix the biggest bucket. Misreads need slower first reads, time loss needs the two-minute rule, knowledge gaps go back to the topic.
Week 8: two more mocks in the afternoon slot the 2026 paper used, then three light days. Check your admit card and centre.
If a maths mistake keeps returning, revisit the idea before drilling more. The Fermi Concept Library has every concept in mathematics with its own lesson, and the Fermi Problem Library works problems step by step and explains the reasoning, so you can see where your method went wrong.
When will the next JIPMAT notice come out?
Dates move. Applications for JIPMAT 2025 opened on 11 February 2025 and the exam was on 26 April 2025, per NTA's 2025 notice. For 2026, applications ran from 16 April to 10 May and the exam was on 7 June, per the 2026 notice. Be ready to start as early as February, and treat the new bulletin as the final word.
