If you want a Bihar government engineering seat through JEE Main, or a state-quota MBBS or BDS seat through NEET-UG, the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) runs your counselling. Dates change every year, so check the current schedule on the BCECEB counselling portal. When we checked it on 27 October 2026, UGEAC had reached its Round 2 allotment result and UGMAC was open for registration and choice filling. The rules below come from the 2024 notices, still the latest on the board's schedule page.
Which BCECEB counselling covers engineering and medical seats?
There are two separate processes.
UGEAC (Under Graduate Engineering Admission Counselling) fills B.E./B.Tech seats in Bihar's government engineering colleges, using JEE Main scores and the UGEAC merit list (UGEAC-2024 notice).
UGMAC (Under Graduate Medical Admission Counselling) fills MBBS, BDS and B.V.Sc. & A.H. seats in Bihar's government medical, dental and veterinary colleges and its private medical and dental colleges, using NEET (UG) (UGMAC-2024 notice).
For both, you first fill the board's application form, then download a rank card with your UGEAC or UGMAC ID and date of birth.
How does BCECEB engineering counselling work, step by step?
The UGEAC-2024 notice sets out the sequence:
Download your rank card.
Register on the online counselling portal. This is one-time: skip it in the first round and you get no chance in later rounds.
Fill as many colleges and branches as you want, in order of preference, and lock them before the deadline. Unlocking needs an OTP sent to your registered mobile and email; unlocked choices are locked automatically at the deadline.
Seats are allotted on a merit-cum-choice basis.
Download your provisional allotment order. If you want a better seat, opt for upgradation now, or you are not considered in the next round.
Report to the centre named on your order, by its date, for document verification, whether or not you chose upgradation. Miss it and your seat is treated as vacant and you are out of further counselling.
Round 2 follows. Seats still vacant after that go to the BCECE PCM merit list.
In 2024, registration and choice filling ran from 20 to 26 July, and Round 2 admission closed on 12 August (UGEAC-2024 notice). The same notice says one-third (33%) of seats in each college and branch are reserved horizontally for women. If you miss a step, see which counselling rounds are still open after a missed deadline.
Should you choose upgradation after Round 1?
A worked example: Aman (a made-up student) gets civil engineering at his fifth-choice college. His first choice was computer science elsewhere. The UGEAC notice gives him two paths.
No upgradation: he reports, gets his documents verified and takes admission.
Upgradation: he still reports for verification, then takes back his Document Verification Slip and originals. If Round 2 upgrades him, he must report to the new centre with them, or he loses both the new seat and the old one. If Round 2 leaves him where he is, he must report to his Round 1 college with the slip in time, or lose that seat.
A simple rule: choose upgradation only if you really want a higher choice and can manage a second trip in the Round 2 window. In 2024 that window was 10 to 12 August (UGEAC-2024 notice).
What documents do you need for BCECEB document verification?
For UGEAC, bring your printed application (Part-A and Part-B), choice slip, three copies of the allotment order, two copies of the check slip, and every original the information brochure lists (UGEAC-2024 notice).
The UGMAC list adds your NEET (UG) admit card, a Bihar residence certificate from the Circle Officer or Revenue Officer, a caste certificate, six photographs matching your NEET admit card, an Aadhaar copy, and EWS or disability certificates where relevant (UGMAC-2024 notice).
A checklist for the night before:
One folder of originals, one of photocopies
Every portal printout, in the counts the notice asks for
The reporting centre's address and last date, from your allotment order
Your registered phone, charged
How is BCECEB medical counselling (UGMAC) different?
The steps are similar, but some rules differ. In 2024, UGMAC candidates paid a registration fee and a security deposit, had a free-exit window after Round 1, and lost the deposit if they were allotted a Round 2 seat and did not take admission. If you opted for upgradation, the reporting centre kept your documents while you waited for the Round 2 result (UGMAC-2024 notice).
