30 October 2026 is the last date for private candidates to submit their CBSE Class 10 or Class 12 examination form for 2027, with a late fee. CBSE will hold these candidates' exams in February, March and April 2027, along with the main board exams. Dates are from CBSE's notices of 7 October 2026 for Class 10 and Class 12.
Who can apply as a private candidate?
The notices list four groups, for both classes:
Students of 2025-26 declared Essential Repeat in the 2026 result.
Students of 2025-26 placed in Compartment in the 2026 main and supplementary exams (second chance compartment).
Students declared Fail or Essential Repeat in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Students who passed in 2026 and want to improve their performance in one or more subjects.
The exact eligibility for each group is in Annexure 1 of each notice.
What are the dates and fees?
Forms open: 8 October 2026
Normal fee: 8 to 23 October 2026
With a late fee of Rs 2,000 per candidate (on top of the normal fee): 24 to 30 October 2026
Exams: February, March and April 2027, with the board's main exams
The full fee table, including fees for additional subjects and, for Class 12, practical subjects, is in Annexure 4 of each notice.
How do you apply?
Use the private candidate ("vyaktigat pariksharthi") link on the CBSE website: cbse.gov.in/newsite/private.
Pay the fee online by net banking, debit card or credit card. CBSE accepts no offline forms and no form without the fee.
Choose your exam city carefully: CBSE says the centre allotted from your choice will not be changed.
After paying, download a copy of your form and check it. Corrections, including subject and centre, are allowed only up to the last date.
What else should you know?
Fill only one form, with a working email address for OTP verification. Students of 2025 or earlier must enter their roll number and year of passing correctly; wrong details lead to rejection.
You will get a new roll number for 2027.
The syllabus is the one for the 2027 exams on the CBSE academic website.
Upload a recent colour photo, passport size, under 40 KB.
