NTA opened the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 application form on 24 October 2026, and the last date to apply and pay is 22 November 2026, with a late-fee window of Rs 500 extra until 26 November, according to the official public notice. The JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin says your name, category, date of birth, exam cities and other details are treated as final once you submit, apart from the fields NTA opens in a one-time correction window. So fill it slowly, with your documents beside you.
What should you keep ready before you start?
Sizes are from the JEE Main 2027 bulletin:
Your Class 10 certificate or marksheet, scanned as a PDF between 50 and 300 kB
A recent colour passport-size photo on a white background, and a working camera for the live photo
Your signature, scanned as a JPG
Any category or disability certificate you are claiming
A mobile number and email you or a parent can open all year
Aadhaar updated with your current photo and name, as NTA advises
If you are not sure you can apply at all, read who can sit JEE Main or the NEET UG eligibility rules first.
How should you enter your name and category?
Write your name exactly as on your Class 10 certificate. The replica form in the JEE Main 2027 bulletin asks for personal details as printed on the Class 10 passing certificate or marksheet from your board: same spelling, same order, same initials. Do the same for your parents' names and your date of birth. If two documents disagree, ask the NTA helpdesk (jeemain@nta.ac.in, 011-40759000) before you submit.
The bulletin also says each mobile number and email can be used for only one form, so siblings applying in the same year need separate ones.
Choose only a category you can prove. The same bulletin says OBC-NCL applies only if your community is on the central list of OBCs on the National Commission for Backward Classes website; OBCs only on a state list cannot claim it, and creamy-layer candidates are treated as General. The category you enter is also used for JEE Advanced.
The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin says caste documents are verified at counselling. A wrong category may pass at the form stage and fail when your seat depends on it.
What are the photo and signature specs?
For JEE Main 2027, according to the bulletin:
Live photo: taken by webcam, or by phone via a QR code, with a white background, good light and 80% of the frame your face, ears showing, no mask
Scanned photo: a colour passport-size photo with the same rules, as a JPG of 10 to 200 kB
Signature: a JPG of 10 to 100 kB
The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin also wanted a photo taken after 1 January 2026 and finger and thumb impressions of both hands, none of which could be corrected later. Check the 2027 bulletin when it is out.
How many exam cities can you pick?
For JEE Main 2027 you pick up to four cities, in order of preference, from the state of your permanent or present address, and NTA may still allot another city (bulletin, chapter 5). The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin allowed three. Put first the city you can reach most easily: the JEE Main bulletin says gates close 30 minutes before the exam starts.
What if money is deducted but no confirmation page appears?
Don't start a second form: the JEE Main 2027 bulletin says candidates who fill more than one application form will be treated as using unfair means. Instead:
Check the payment status with the bank or gateway, using the helplines in Appendix I.
If the payment failed, pay again before the deadline.
If it went through, contact the NTA helpline so the confirmation page can be generated. NTA refunds duplicate payments after reconciling fees.
Note the bank name, date and time, transaction number and bank reference number, and keep a screenshot. Then download and print the confirmation page.
What should you check together before you pay?
A parent reads from the marksheet; you read the screen:
"Your name, letter by letter."
"Father's name, then mother's name."
"Date of birth: day, month, year."
"Category, and where is the certificate?"
"Exam cities, in order. Why is that one first?"
"Whose mobile and email are these, and can we open them now?"
"Open the photo. Is the background white? Are both ears showing?"
"Which paper, and which language?" The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin says the question paper medium cannot be changed later.
Take a screenshot of the preview page, then submit.
Then get back to preparation. If you don't know where to start, Fermi's AI tutor works out what you already know and builds a plan for the session. NTA's official mock tests let you practise on the real test screen.
