If you want to study engineering in Karnataka but are not a Karnataka candidate for KCET, or you want a second route into private colleges there, COMEDK UGET is the exam to know. This post explains what it is, its format, how ranks are made and how to prepare, using COMEDK's own 2026 documents. Rules can change, so check the current year's brochure on the COMEDK website before you rely on any detail.
What is COMEDK UGET, and who can take it?
COMEDK is the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka. Its UGET 2026 page explains that after NEET became the only accepted entrance exam for medical and dental courses, COMEDK continued its test for the members of KUPECA, around 150 private engineering colleges. For 2026-27, it held an online test across India on Saturday, 9 May 2026, for engineering programmes offering around 20,000 seats.
The test is open to eligible students across India, not only Karnataka. For B.E./B.Tech, the page says General Merit candidates need at least 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 or 2nd PUC, and must pass each subject (40% for SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka). All subjects must be passed from a single board.
What is the COMEDK UGET exam format?
From the COMEDK UGET 2026 Information Brochure:
It is a computer-based test (CBT) only.
There are 60 multiple-choice questions each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, 180 questions in all.
Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and there is no negative marking. The total is 180 marks.
The medium is English only.
You can change an answer as many times as you like before the session ends, according to the FAQ on the UGET page.
The brochure does not fix one timing for everyone. Your session and slot are printed on your Test Admission Ticket, and you cannot choose them.
What syllabus does COMEDK UGET follow?
The 2026 page says the test is based on the CBSE syllabus: about 33% from the Class 11 syllabus (2024-25) and about 67% from the Class 12 syllabus (2025-26). Subject-wise syllabus PDFs are linked from the same page.
Worked example. Of 180 questions, about 33% is 0.33 × 180 = 59.4, and about 67% is 0.67 × 180 = 120.6. So expect roughly 60 questions from Class 11 and 120 from Class 12, about 20 and 40 per subject. These are approximate shares, not fixed counts.
How are COMEDK ranks worked out?
The brochure says the exam may run in several sessions with different question papers, so scores are normalised. Rank is based on percentile, which COMEDK defines as the "Percentage of candidates who have got equal to or lower score than the candidate", normalised across sessions. The final merit is based on the entrance test only, and a candidate who scores zero gets no rank.
Worked example. Suppose 2,000 candidates sat your session, and 1,900 of them (including you) scored equal to or lower than you. Your percentile in that session is 1,900 ÷ 2,000 × 100 = 95.
Ties are broken in this order:
Higher percentile in Physics and Mathematics
Higher percentile in Mathematics
Higher percentile in Chemistry
Age: the elder candidate ranks higher
How should you manage a 180-question paper?
With no negative marking, a blank always earns less than a guess, so attempt every question. If your slot gives you 3 hours, that is 180 minutes ÷ 180 questions = 1 minute per question; check your Test Admission Ticket for the actual timing before you plan. Because you can change answers in a CBT, a quick first pass that answers everything, followed by a second pass on marked questions, works well.
How should you prepare for COMEDK UGET?
Map the syllabus. Download the three syllabus PDFs and tick each topic against your NCERT books.
Keep your board marks above the eligibility line. The 45% PCM aggregate is a requirement for admission.
Practise in a computer-based format. COMEDK offers a mock test on its site; take it at least once to learn the interface.
Mix chapters and subjects in practice. In one study, Taylor and Rohrer found that children who practised maths problem types interleaved did worse during practice but doubled their scores on a test a day later.
Train speed on Class 12 topics, since they make up about two-thirds of the paper.
Many students sit COMEDK alongside KCET; our KCET guide explains how its ranking differs. If a chapter feels shaky because the idea itself is unclear, the Fermi Concept Library covers every concept in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computing.
Next step: open the COMEDK UGET page, download the three subject syllabi, and mark the Class 12 topics you have not yet studied.
