The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh, conducts centralised counselling for admission to B.E. and B.Tech programmes. If you want a seat in a government or private engineering college in MP, you have to go through this process.
Here is how the MP DTE online engineering counselling works, from registration to locking your choices.
When does MP DTE counselling begin?
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) typically publishes the official counselling schedule in late May or early June, shortly after the National Testing Agency (NTA) declares the final JEE Main results. The counselling takes place in multiple phases to ensure all seats are filled.
First Round (JEE Main based): This is the primary round for students who hold a valid JEE Main score. Most of the seats in top government colleges like SGSITS Indore or JEC Jabalpur are filled in this round.
Second Round (JEE Main based): For seats that remain vacant after the first round, a second round is conducted for candidates who either missed the first round or wish to upgrade their allotted seat.
Qualifying Exam Round (Class 12 based): If seats are still vacant after the JEE Main rounds, the DTE opens a round where seats are allotted based purely on your Class 12 board exam marks.
College Level Counselling (CLC): The final phase involves applying directly at the college campus for any leftover seats.
Keep an eye on the official portal at dte.mponline.gov.in for the exact dates and the detailed information brochure.
How to register for MP DTE counselling?
Your first step is to create a profile on the counselling portal and pay the registration fee. The total fee for the general counselling process is ₹1,530 dte.mponline.gov.in. This includes a ₹400 counselling fee, a ₹130 portal fee, and a ₹1,000 part tuition fee, which is adjusted against your college fees if you take admission.
Here is the step-by-step registration process:
Visit dte.mponline.gov.in and select "Select Course for Counselling".
Choose Graduate Programs and then click on Bachelor of Technology (B.E./B.Tech.).
Click on the "Apply for Counselling" tab and initiate a new registration.
Enter your JEE Main Roll Number and your Date of Birth. The system will automatically fetch your JEE Main score and basic details.
Fill in your personal details, contact information, and academic scores.
Upload scanned copies of your required documents.
Pay the fee online using Net Banking, a Credit/Debit Card, or UPI.
What documents do you need?
Before you start your registration, keep scanned copies of the following documents ready in the specified size and format:
Class 10 Marksheet (for date of birth proof)
Class 12 Marksheet
JEE Main Scorecard
MP Domicile Certificate (if you are a resident of Madhya Pradesh claiming state quota seats)
Category or Caste Certificate (for SC, ST, or OBC candidates)
Income Certificate (mandatory if you are applying for the Tuition Fee Waiver or TFW scheme, or if you are an OBC candidate)
How does document verification work?
Once you complete registration and pay the fee, your documents must be verified before you can move to the choice-filling stage.
For most students who completed their Class 12 from the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), this happens automatically through an e-verification process. The portal checks your uploaded details against the state's electronic databases. If your profile status updates to "e-verified", you can move straight to choice filling.
If the system cannot verify your documents online—which often happens for CBSE students or students from other state boards—you will receive a slip asking you to verify your documents manually. You will have to take your original documents and a set of photocopies to a designated DTE Help Centre. These centres are usually set up in government engineering colleges and polytechnics across the state.
How does MP DTE choice filling work?
After your documents are verified, the portal will allow you to log in and select the colleges and branches you want to join. This is the most crucial part of the process.
Add your choices: You will see a list of all participating colleges and their available branches. There is no limit to the number of choices you can add. It is safer to add many options, including safe backup colleges, to increase your chances of getting a seat.
Set the order: Rank your choices in strict order of preference, putting your dream college and branch at the very top. The algorithm checks your list from top to bottom and allots the first available seat that your rank allows. Never put a college you do not want to join higher than a college you do.
Lock your choices: You must lock your choice list before the given deadline. If you leave your choices unlocked, they may not be considered for seat allotment, and you could be excluded from the round.
Once the choice-filling deadline passes, the DTE will publish a Common Merit List and subsequently announce the seat allotment results. If you are allotted a seat, you must download your allotment letter and report physically to that specific college with your original documents to complete the admission process.
If you decide to step back from counselling and take a drop year to improve your JEE Main score, Fermi's AI tutor can work out what you already know and build a plan for the session, so you sit down to a clear next step. You can use it to master shortcuts like limits of the form 1^∞ or to review photodiode, LED and solar cell I-V curves.
