The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) conducts UGET counselling for admission to private engineering and architecture colleges in Karnataka. If you have your rank card, the next phase is entirely online.
What is the COMEDK counselling process step by step?
The official process moves through several distinct phases. Missing a deadline at any stage can remove you from the counselling entirely.
Registration and fee payment: You begin by logging into the applicant portal using your application number and password. Here, you must pay a non-refundable counselling registration fee of ₹2,000 online (COMEDK).
Document upload: You upload scanned copies of your mandatory documents. These must be clear scans; photographs taken on a mobile phone are frequently rejected.
Document verification: COMEDK officials verify your uploaded documents online. You must track your status on the portal. It will show as "Approved," "Rejected," or "Incomplete." Only approved candidates move forward.
Option entry (Choice filling): You select your preferred colleges and engineering branches. There is no limit to the number of choices you can add.
Mock allotment: The system runs a trial based on everyone's choices and shows you the seat you are likely to get. You then have a window to reorder or change your preferences.
Seat allotment and reporting: The actual allotment is published. You must decide whether to accept the seat, upgrade, or withdraw, pay the tuition fee, and eventually report to the college.
What documents do you need for COMEDK verification?
Gathering your paperwork early prevents last-minute panic if a scan is rejected. According to the 2026 counselling guidelines (COMEDK), you will need the following original documents ready to scan:
Your COMEDK UGET Rank Card and Application Form.
Original photo ID proof (of both the candidate and a parent).
Proof of date of birth, typically a Class 10/SSLC marks card or a government document.
Your Class 12 / 2nd PUC marks card.
If you are claiming a reservation (such as SC/ST/OBC or the Hyderabad-Karnataka region), the relevant category certificates.
A domicile certificate and a 7-year study certificate if you are a Karnataka candidate.
How does the COMEDK option entry and seat allotment work?
Once your documents are verified, you get access to the choice filling tab. This is where strategy matters. You should list every college and branch you are willing to join, in strict order of preference.
Never list a college you do not want to attend just to fill space. The computer works its way down your list and stops at the first available seat.
What happens after the mock allotment?
Before the real seat allotment, COMEDK releases a mock allotment. This is a practice run. It shows you the seat you would get if the current preferences were locked in.
If you are unhappy with your mock allotment, this is your chance to change things. You can add new choices, delete ones you no longer want, and change the order. After this window closes, your choices are locked for the first round.
The four decisions in seat allotment
When the Round 1 results are published, you must make a binding choice:
Accept and Freeze: You are happy with the allotted seat and want to claim it. You pay the fee, download your allotment letter, and report to the college. You cannot participate in further rounds.
Accept and Upgrade: You will take this seat if nothing better comes along, but you want to participate in Round 2 to see if you get a higher preference.
Reject and Upgrade: You do not want this seat, but you want to stay in the counselling process for the next round.
Reject and Withdraw: You do not want the seat and you are leaving the COMEDK counselling process entirely.
How can you build a strong foundation for engineering?
Whether you are preparing for your first semester at science or engineering college or you have decided to take a drop year to improve your COMEDK rank, mastering the core sciences is essential. First-year engineering courses build heavily on Class 11 and 12 physics and mathematics.
If you found yourself struggling with integration, mechanics, or electromagnetism during the exam, Fermi's AI tutor works out what you already know, builds a plan for the session, and teaches through it. Rather than just giving you the final answers, it holds a line of reasoning across a whole session, notices where you are stuck, and decides whether to explain, ask, or show.
For those revising complex ideas, the Fermi Concept Library contains every concept in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computing, each with its own lesson and its place in the map. Building a study routine that lasts with these tools will ensure you are ready for the rigorous pace of a B.Tech degree.
*Always check the official COMEDK website for the most current dates, fee structures, and document requirements, as these can change annually.*
